Tips and tricks for adjusting your custom instructions and custom fields with the new model

Updated this week

This updated AI model improves on detail, speed and in our testing but each model as a different "brain" and strengths. Understanding these will help in understanding how you might need to make adjustments to your custom instructions and custom fields. Here are our tips:

  1. This new model follows instructions much more directly. If your prompt / instructions said "Record any abnormal lung sounds such as crackles or wheezes and any respiratory patterns such as panting." ... you might get "Panting. No other abnormal lung sounds or wheezing observed."

To avoid this, you can update your instructions to give the AI more context but not explicit instructions. "Document respiratory findings from the physical exam. Observations typically include:

    - any abnormal lung sounds, such as crackles or wheezes

    - any observed respiratory patterns such as panting"

This ensures that the AI knows what it's looking for but doesn't treat your prompt like a checklist.

  2. Because this new model picks up on lots of detail, you may prefer shortened output. For example, if it's writing you a wordy paragraph about the pet's diet after the owner regales you with everything you could possibly want to know, you might add a custom instruction that says: "Follow this format, excluding additional details: [Diet brand] [diet type], [amount fed] [frequency]" and provide an example or two.

  3. Don't be afraid to tell it what to omit. "Omit words like "noted" and "observed" or "omit medications recommended but not prescribed"

  4. Use the thumbs down feedback! We will be closely monitoring to ensure that feedback gets incorporated quickly.
