Cornerstone: Setting Up Your Connection ↔️

HappyBridge connects HappyDoc to Cornerstone. It brings your appointments in and sends your finished notes back into the patient's record. Here's how to install it on your Cornerstone server, set up your schedule, and check it's working.

Before you start

This article is for practices using Cornerstone. If you use Avimark or Impromed, see the guide for your system.

You can install HappyBridge yourself, from Settings in HappyDoc. It takes about fifteen minutes and you don't need to be technical. If you'd rather not, or anything gets stuck, we're happy to do it with you on a call.

You'll need:

  1. To be on the computer that hosts your Cornerstone database. That's your server, not a front desk or exam room workstation.

  2. Permission to install software on that computer. If an outside IT company manages your server, they may need to do this part, or give you access first.

  3. Google Chrome on the server. If it's not there yet, install it before you start.

⚠️ It has to be the server, not a workstation. HappyBridge reads your Cornerstone database directly, so it only works on the computer where that database lives. If you aren't sure which computer that is, your office manager or whoever looks after your IT will know.

What it does once it's running

  • Your appointments come into HappyDoc. Your schedule appears in HappyDoc looking roughly a week ahead, so the day is already laid out when you arrive.

  • Your finished notes go back into Cornerstone, into the patient's record, as a real note.

  • Your doctors come across from Cornerstone, so you aren't maintaining the same list twice.

⚠️ If you're on our older Cornerstone setup. You can move to HappyBridge, and it's worth doing. The older setup relied on another company's software sitting between us and your practice, and its most common failure was a note arriving in Cornerstone as a link instead of the actual note. HappyBridge talks to your server directly, so that problem simply can't happen anymore. Moving over uses the same steps below, and your appointments and notes carry on as before.

Step 1: Start the install from HappyDoc

  1. On your Cornerstone server, open Google Chrome and sign in to HappyDoc at app.gohappydoc.com.

  2. Open Settings and click Start Upgrade.

  3. When HappyDoc asks, confirm Yes, this is the server.

  4. Check the time zone is right for your practice.

  5. Click Download and wait for the installer to finish downloading.

Step 2: Run the installer

  1. Open the installer you just downloaded. You'll find it in Chrome's downloads, at the top right of the window.

  2. If Windows shows a box saying it protected your PC, click More info, then Run anyway. This is normal for a new installer.

  3. If Windows asks whether to let the app make changes to your device, click Yes.

  4. Click through the installer and click Install.

  5. HappyBridge signs in and opens a confirmation page in your browser. You can close that tab.

  6. Go back to the installer and click Finish.

⚠️ If the confirmation page doesn't appear, or sign in fails. Uninstall HappyDoc Setup from Add or Remove Programs in Windows, then run the installer again. If it still doesn't work, contact us and we'll take a look, or do the install with you.

Step 3: Set up your schedule

Back in HappyDoc, setup carries on by itself. Give it a few seconds to connect to Cornerstone.

  1. Choose what to show. The dropdown lists the schedules from your Cornerstone, and below it are the columns. It's laid out like Cornerstone's own scheduler, so open your Cornerstone schedule alongside it and check they match.

  2. Click a column to leave it out of HappyDoc, or drag the columns to change their order. You can change all of this later.

  3. Click Continue.

  4. Choose how staff names should appear in HappyDoc, then click Continue.

  5. When you see that Cornerstone is connected, click Go to HappyDoc.

Your HappyDoc calendar should now look like your Cornerstone schedule. To change which rooms show later, open Settings, then Schedule, choose the Rooms tab, and click a room's Included or Excluded label to switch it.

Step 4: Checking it's working, in the first week

  1. Open HappyDoc in the morning and confirm your day is there. Appointments that came from Cornerstone are marked with a circular arrow.

  2. Record one visit and send the note across.

  3. Open that patient in Cornerstone and confirm the note is in the record and reads correctly.

If all three work, you're done. If any of them doesn't, tell us which one, because that tells us where to look.

Day to day, worth knowing

  • Your schedule syncs automatically for today and the next seven days. For an earlier date, go to that date and click Sync.

  • For same day bookings, press the sync button and give it about thirty seconds. This is the answer to most cases of "my appointment isn't showing".

  • Your server needs to be on. HappyBridge runs on your machine, so if the server is off, asleep, restarting or being patched, appointments stop arriving and notes stop sending until it's back.

  • Doctor names come from Cornerstone. You chose how they're shown during setup. If a name still needs to read differently in HappyDoc, just tell us. Editing it here won't stick, because the next refresh from Cornerstone will put the original back.

Troubleshooting / FAQs

Q: Would you rather do the install for us?
A: Happy to. Message us in HappyDoc or email [email protected], tell us who can get onto the server (and your IT company's details if they manage it), and we'll book a time to do it with you.

Q: Windows says it protected my PC and won't open the installer.
A: That's Windows being careful with a new installer. Click More info, then Run anyway. If you don't see Run anyway, your computer may be locked down by your IT company, so ask them to run it, or tell us and we'll help.

Q: HappyDoc won't work properly on our Cornerstone server.
A: Use Google Chrome on the server, not Microsoft Edge. If Chrome isn't installed there, install it, sign in to HappyDoc in Chrome, and try again.

Q: Nothing is syncing and nothing is exporting, both at once.
A: That's usually one problem rather than two, and it's nearly always the connection to your server. Check the server is on and hasn't restarted overnight. If it's running and things still aren't moving, tell us and we'll take a look. No need to dig through settings.

Q: My appointments are there but my note won't export.
A: Send us the patient name and the time of the visit. Exporting depends on a few things lining up behind the scenes, and it's quicker for us to check than for you to guess.

Q: One appointment is missing and the rest are fine.
A: Press the sync button first. If it still doesn't appear, it's something about that specific appointment, so tell us the patient name and time.

Q: A new patient's appointment came across but the patient didn't.
A: That usually means the patient hasn't been checked in yet, so the appointment arrives without a patient record attached. Check them in on your side. If you've already recorded, don't re-record, tell us and we'll attach the audio to the right visit.

Q: Do notes include charges?
A: No. HappyDoc writes the medical record. Charges stay in Cornerstone.

Q: Can I change the date the note files under?
A: It files under the date it was sent. That can't be changed afterwards, but you can put the visit date in the document title.

Q: I have fewer doctors than rooms and setup won't let me carry on.
A: Each doctor can only be picked once, so you won't be able to fill every row. Click Finish later. Nothing is lost, and we'll match the remaining rooms and doctors for you.

Q: My schedule is empty straight after setup.
A: Refresh the page, then sign out of HappyDoc and back in. If it's still empty, tell us. There's no need to restart anything on the server.

Q: Some computers show the right schedule and others don't.
A: That's the computer, not the connection. On each computer that looks wrong, sign out of HappyDoc and back in.

Q: How long do notes stay Tentative in Cornerstone?
A: Open Settings, then Integrations. Under Cornerstone, turn on Auto-finalize notes in Cornerstone and set Finalize after to the number of days you want. Notes arrive in Cornerstone as Tentative and finalize after that many days. Notes that are already in Cornerstone don't change. With it off, notes stay Tentative until someone finalizes them in Cornerstone.

Q: Can patients checked in on the Daily Planner show up in HappyDoc?
A: Yes. In Settings, then Integrations, turn on Sync checked-in patients. They appear as visits in a room called Checked-In.

Q: Some of our doctors show up twice.
A: The old copy of the doctor was left alongside the new one. Open Settings, then Schedule, find the copy with no appointments, and click its green Synced label. That turns that copy off, and the label changes to Unsynced. You don't need to map doctors yourself; they come from Cornerstone.

Q: Some visits disappeared after we moved over.
A: Check Settings, then Recycle Bin, and restore them from there. Then tell us, so we can stop it happening again.

Q: Do I need this on every computer?
A: No. It goes on the machine hosting your Cornerstone database, once. Everyone else just uses HappyDoc normally.

Q: Does it slow Cornerstone down?
A: It's built to sit quietly alongside it. If you notice anything change after the install, tell us. That's worth a look, not something to live with.
