Multi-Pet Visits: Recording Two Patients at Once 🐾

Seeing two pets from the same household in one appointment? HappyDoc can generate a document for each of them from a single recording. Here's how, including the export step.

Before you start

  • This works for pets seen together in one appointment, for example littermates or two pets from one household.

  • Export handles one pet at a time, so there's an extra step at the end. Worth knowing before you start.

Step 1: Set the appointment up

  1. Open the appointment.

  2. Rename the patient to include both names, for example "Bella and Max".

  3. This tells HappyDoc to process the recording as a two-patient visit.

Step 2: Record as normal

  1. Record the visit as you usually would.

  2. Say each pet's name as you move between them. It helps attribute findings to the right animal.

  3. Generate your documents. You'll get one document per pet.

Step 3: Export each pet

Export the first pet as normal. For the second, choose one of these:

  1. Copy across manually into their chart in your practice management system.

  2. Or swap the ID. Change the patient ID on the visit to the second pet, click Export, then change it back. Don't skip changing it back.

Quick Tips

Name the pets out loud: during the visit. The single thing that most improves the split.

Review both documents: before finalizing, particularly anything that applies to one animal only.

Troubleshooting / FAQs

Q: Why can't export just do both?
A: Export writes to one patient record at a time. We know this is more manual than it should be and the team is aware.

Q: Everything ended up in one document.
A: The patient usually needs both names before recording. If the name was changed afterwards, regenerate.

Q: Findings are attributed to the wrong pet.
A: Edit before finalizing. Saying each pet's name as you examine them makes a large difference next time.
