Upload PDFs To Create Custom Documents In Scout

Want to bring your existing forms and documents into HappyDoc? Learn how to easily drag and upload PDF files into Scout to create custom templates for your visits in just a few clicks.

Updated this week

Navigate to HappyDoc

Start by navigating to app.gohappydoc.com and log in with your credentials. Once you’re in, click on a visit to open the visit record or you can view scout from the visit screen in the bottom right hand side.

Opening Scout

Click on Scout to open the Scout dialog box. This is the same interface you use for recordings and document generation — but it also supports uploading your own files.

Dragging Your PDF into Scout

Now, head over to the files on your computer and find the PDF you’d like HappyDoc to use as a template. Drag the file directly from your file explorer into the Scout dialog box. You can also click to browse and select the file if you prefer. Once the file is uploaded, Scout will recognize it and prompt you with the next step.

Creating a Custom Document Template

After your PDF is uploaded, Scout will ask: “Would you like to create a custom document template from [filename].pdf?” Click this prompt to begin the template creation process. You’ll then see an option to Accept or Reject — click Accept to confirm that you’d like Scout to turn your PDF into a reusable template.

Reviewing Your New Template

Once the template is created, click “new document template” to open it. You’ll be taken to the template editor where you can review the content and make any adjustments. Click Preview to see exactly how the document will look before you finalize it. This is a good time to verify that everything transferred correctly from your original PDF.

Quick Tips

File format: Make sure your file is in PDF format before uploading. Scout currently supports PDF files for custom template creation.

Template naming: Give your templates clear, descriptive names so they’re easy to find later when you’re in a visit.

Always preview: It’s a good habit to preview your template before finalizing. This lets you catch any formatting issues early.

Reuse across visits: Once a custom template is created, it’s available for all future visits — you only need to upload it once!
